Choosing a Scaffold System in Singapore
A practical checklist for defining work, site conditions, responsibility and documents before requesting a scaffold quotation in Singapore.
Short answer
There is no universally best scaffold system. Start with the work activity, access height, loading, geometry, foundation, indoor or outdoor conditions, movement, tying and manufacturer instructions. Then identify the responsible contractor, trained personnel, design requirements and inspection plan for the actual configuration.
Start with the work, not the product name
A tower, frame, modular or tube-and-coupler arrangement can behave differently depending on where and how it is used. A useful enquiry states the intended task, who will use the platform, the materials expected on it and the area that must remain accessible.
Site dimensions, openings, slopes, nearby traffic, ground conditions, overhead constraints and weather exposure can change the appropriate configuration. Generic catalogue images cannot replace a site assessment.
Record responsibility before work starts
The project should identify who supplies components, who designs the configuration when design is required, who erects and supervises the work, and who performs and records inspections. Where MOM requires an Approved Scaffold Contractor, verify the appointed company against the current official list.
Ask for the documents relevant to the chosen system and site, including manufacturer information, material type-test records where applicable, risk assessment, method statement and any required design documentation.
Use the quotation as the scope record
A written quotation should state the configuration being priced, quantity or extent, rental or supply period, transport, erection, inspection and dismantling responsibilities, exclusions and validity period. It should also identify any information still needed before work can proceed.
